5 self-care habit for when it’s all a little heavy
Hello good evening and happy Blogmas day 6! I hope you have had a wonderful Wednesday. Anyone else feel like once the end of Wednesday comes around, the rest of the week just flies by? Personally, Thursdays and Fridays are possibly my favourite days of the week. Anyone else? Love knowing the weekend is round the corner. Anyway long intro later welcome to our 6th day of posts.
In today's post I wanted to share some things/ habits we can all do this week to help preserve our mental well being and pour back into our own cups a little. Some very important moments of self care for us all. If you are finding things a little hard to handle at the minute I want you to know it is okay. You are doing so incredibly well with everything. Sometimes when everything is going on around us at 100 miles an hour it is hard to know where to start when it comes to looking out for you. I thought we could do it together.
The days and weeks fly by and we get so caught up in what is next we are on the go and busy that we often forget to look after ourselves and take some simple moments throughout our weeks to look out for ourselves. On the other hand when everything is getting too much sometimes, you find yourself in a very challenging mental space. The idea of having any kind of self care routine is so far down your list if it is even there in the first place. So maybe you could save this post for later when you may need a little inspiration or reassurance that you are not alone. Here are a few things I do to look after myself when everything is getting on top of me a little too much:
Open up your blinds and curtains and let the light shine into your space. The sunlight can help brighten up so many situations. Never underestimate the power of having the daylight beaming through your windows.
Step outside or open up a window and take some nice big deep breaths. Filling your air with fresh air, hearing the white noise of the environment around you can be really soothing and help distract you from whatever is going on for just a few minutes. When I am feeling incredibly anxious the cold air or simply feeling a breeze on my face helps me so much. I may turn our flat into an igloo but I feel very zen!
Allow yourself time to feel. Sometimes we spend so much time pushing our feelings down and patching things up in hopes that we start to feel better that we end up feeling way worse. Spending a little while sat in some uncomfortable feelings although challenging at the time can help us move on from things quicker in the long run. The more we acknowledge the feelings that are there it becomes slightly bit easier to process them. Although we associate self care with maybe more pleasant feelings. Allowing yourself to work through your feelings is allowing you to grow and helping future you.
Spend time doing something you love. Something where you can be 100% you. You don’t feel any pressure or stress around. Cooking, watching your favourite film, spending time with loved ones, resting and catching up on sleep. Reading your book of the moment, going out and exploring… however you recharge your batteries do lots of that and feel absolutely 0 guilt.
Start that one little task you have been putting off for just a little too long. Now this may seem a little controversial to be giving yourself work when you are trying to preserve your wellbeing, however I know me personally there are plenty of little annoying jobs that keep stacking up things as simple as doing the washing up, folding my clothes up, paying a bill, cleaning my flat, decluttering my room…. It all just ends up creating so much noise in my head and the more the jobs stack up the louder it gets. So even when I have some time to sit and relax all I can think about is all of those things that have been left unticked on my todo list. So making a very small start if just one of the tasks will help you feel so much better. I promise and you may even find it has a snowball effect. The feeling of accomplishing something that has been hanging over you for such a long time is incredibly satisfying and you’ll want to see what else you can tick off.
I have so many more where they came from but I think I might save them for a separate post. We can make this into a mini selfcare series.
Let me know what you do to help you relax and ensure you are getting your daily dose of self care?
I hope you have a wonderful day and I will see you back here tomorrow for Blogmas day 7!
Bye ❤️
